UK Corporation Tax Services for Overseas-Based Tax Teams

If you’re responsible for the tax compliance of a UK subsidiary as part of your group headquarters overseas, we understand the pressures you face: dealing with unfamiliar tax rules, understanding UK reporting deadlines, and ensuring your group remains fully compliant across jurisdictions.

At Türner & Co, we work exclusively with international groups that have a UK subsidiary or UK permanent establishment. Our clients often tell us how much they value working with a UK advisor who understands their perspective and proactively helps them manage UK tax compliance with minimal fuss.

What Is UK Corporation Tax and Who Is Liable?

In the UK, corporation tax is charged on the worldwide profits of UK-resident companies. Non-resident companies are liable for UK corporation tax on:

  • Trading profits attributable to a UK permanent establishment (PE)
  • Profits from trading in or developing UK land
  • UK property rental business profits
  • Gains from UK property disposals (direct or indirect)
  • UK-source income not otherwise taxed

The current corporation tax rate is:

  • 25% for profits over GBP 250,000
  • 19% for profits up to GBP 50,000
  • Marginal relief for profits between GBP 50,000 and GBP 250,000

These thresholds are reduced based on the number of associated companies worldwide.

An Overview of the UK Corporation Tax Compliance Cycle

The UK operates a self-assessment regime. This means your UK subsidiary is responsible for ensuring its tax return is complete and correct. The UK tax authorities – HMRC – will not issue an assessment or confirm acceptance of the return.

The corporate tax compliance cycle includes:

1. Tax Registration

We register the company with HMRC for corporation tax as part of our onboarding.

2. Filing the Corporation Tax Return

The tax return consists of:

  • The CT600 form (the return itself)
  • The tax computation
  • Statutory accounts in iXBRL format

All of this must be submitted online within 12 months of the period end.

3. Payment Deadlines

Corporation tax must be paid:

  • 9 months and 1 day after the period end for smaller companies
  • Quarterly Instalment Payments (QIPs) apply to large companies:
    • For profits > GBP 1.5m (divided by number of group companies)
    • First payment is due in month 7 of the accounting period
    • Accelerated payment timetable for companies with profits > GBP 20 million

We will help you monitor payment deadlines and ensure accurate and timely payments.
